THE PICKERS traces the traces of our oranges, olives, strawberries, and blueberries back to the people who harvest them: In southern Italy, Seydou from Mali picks oranges. As a day laborer without a contract, he is paid by the crate. He lives in a self-built hut in a settlement without water or electricity. Blueberries in Portugal, olives in Greece, strawberries in Spain – more than two million migrants currently work in European fields, many of them without contracts or minimum wage, some without residency papers or heavily in debt to intermediaries.
